Justice Ochieng joined the Judiciary in 2003 as a High Court Judge, serving with distinction in various stations, including the Civil Division, Kitale, Kakamega, the Criminal Division, the Commercial and Admiralty Division, and Kisumu. In 2022, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal.

Until his death, he also chaired the Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce, spearheading the national roll-out of court-annexed mediation as part of efforts to promote alternative dispute resolution across the country.

Prior to joining the bench, Justice Ochieng had a long and successful career as an Advocate of the High Court with the firm Kaplan & Stratton Advocates, where he practiced law for almost four decades.

Chief Justice Koome hailed him as a man of integrity, dedication, and service, noting that his passing is a great loss to the Judiciary and the nation at large. She extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire judicial fraternity, urging for compassion and sensitivity during this difficult time.

“May Hon. Justice Fred Ochieng’s soul rest in eternal peace,” the Chief Justice stated.
