A nurse at Maryslope Clinic has been charged at Kibera law court with allegedly enticing a two-week-old baby from the lawful care and possession of the child’s parent.
The accused Rosemary appeared in court on Monday and was charged with two counts, including enticement and stealing of a two week child and operating private clinic without a valid licence.
The prosecution alleges that on August 17, 2026, at Makini area in Kibera Sub-County, Nairobi County, the accused unlawfully enticed a two-week-old child, with the intention of depriving Sophia Were, the child’s parent, of lawful care and possession. She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
She also denied a second charge alleging that on August 20, 2026, at Mwolem area in Embakasi Sub-County, she was found operating Maryslope Medical Clinic as a private practice without a valid licence.
The prosecution opposed her release on bail and bond, with the investigating officer filing an affidavit outlining the reasons for opposing her release. Her lawyers asked for time to study the affidavit and prepare for the cross-examination of the investigating officer. The court granted the defence one day and ordered that the accused remain in custody.
The case will return to court tomorrow September 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for further directions on the bail application.
