Kiminini Detectives Arrest Stepfather Linked to Alleged Sexual Assault and Death of Minor

Kiminini Detectives Arrest Stepfather Linked to Alleged Sexual Assault and Death of Minor

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kiminini arrested Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, the child’s stepfather, as investigations continue into the minor’s death.

Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a minor who later died while receiving medical attention. The suspect, Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, is the child’s stepfather and had reportedly gone into hiding following the incident, prompting investigators to launch a manhunt.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged assault occurred between March 2 and 3, 2026. The child was initially taken to Bikeke Health Centre for treatment before being referred to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where the minor was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the child’s death, the suspect allegedly fled to an unknown location, leading detectives to pursue leads to establish his whereabouts and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The manhunt culminated in his arrest in the Shimo la Tewa area of Milimani, within Kiminini Sub-County.

He was subsequently taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Kiminini, where he is being processed as detectives continue with investigations ahead of his expected arraignment at the Kitale Law Courts.

The DCI has expressed condolences to the bereaved family, reaffirming its commitment to investigating offences against children and pursuing accountability for those found culpable under the law.
