An elderly man was arraigned in a Nairobi court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to stealing a car power window switch from a police vehicle parked at Central Police Station.

Francis Nzomo Ndotho was accused of sneaking into the station’s car yard and stealing the vehicle part. He admitted to the offense before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, pleading for leniency and explaining that poverty had driven him to commit the crime at the law enforcement facility.

In his mitigation, Nzomo asked the court for help, promising that he would never steal again. He explained that he is a husband and father of three, and as the sole breadwinner, his family relies on him for survival.

“Naomba Korti inisaidie na sitarudia hio makosa tena, niko na bibi na watoto watatu na Mimi ndio tengemeo nyumbani,” Nzomo pleaded.

The court has scheduled the matter for mention on September 5, 2024, when Nzomo will be sentenced.
