Late Jeff Mwathi’s dad became emotional on Wednesday while testifying in the inquest into the death of his son, who was found dead in an apartment building.

He was overcome with emotion when he took the stand and began his testimony before the court.

While being led in testimony by his lawyer Danstan Omari, he said it was devastating for the family when they received news of Jeff’s passing.

He told the court that the family was never satisfied with the police investigation report, particularly the postmortem report, given that it was conducted after the body had already decomposed.

He said that he had expected a bright future for his son because, at the time of his death, Jeff had already applied for a passport to travel abroad and further his studies.

He told the court he had hoped his son would help him in old age, but all those hopes were extinguished by evil-minded people, which he claimed has caused him psychological trauma to this day.

He further urged the court to take stringent legal action against anybody found culpable of his son’s death.

“Walitupokonya kijana ambaye alikuwa shujaa kwetu na ambaye tungemtemea na ambaye alikuwa very happy,” said the father amid tears.

He told the court that when he received the news of his son’s death, he could not even move, which is why he could not travel to Nairobi to view his son’s body at City Mortuary.

Jeff was found dead at Redwood apartment, from what was suspected to be a fall from the 10th floor.

He had allegedly gone to visit DJ Fatxo when he died under unclear circumstances, leading to the current inquest.
