An Isiolo man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of defiling a 15-year-old child living with a mental disability.
The man was found guilty of defilement under Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act. He had also faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child. The prosecution presented testimony from the victim and five other witnesses before Isiolo Law Courts, alongside medical evidence supporting the allegations.
Prosecution Counsel Justice Mugambi told the court that the evidence presented established the offence beyond reasonable doubt. The court, presided over by Hon. Maureen Odhiambo, subsequently convicted the accused and imposed the 25-year custodial sentence.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the case demonstrates its continued efforts to secure justice for children and other vulnerable victims of sexual offences.
The convict has been granted 14 days to appeal against both his conviction and sentence.
