A 36-year-old woman has been arrested in Kitengela over allegations that she falsely presented herself as a qualified lawyer and obtained Sh82,000 from a client under the pretext of providing legal services.
The suspect, identified as Maureen Auma Andary, was apprehended by detectives at Chuna Mall in Kitengela following investigations into claims that she had been impersonating an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. Investigators allege that Andary had been presenting herself to clients as a practising advocate and claimed to be associated with Wafula & Co. Advocates in Kitengela.
The investigation reportedly began on September 11, 2026, after the authorities received a complaint concerning her activities. According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly received Sh82,000 from a client after promising to prepare and file applications relating to a case said to be pending at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
Her arrest has now opened the way for further investigations, with detectives seeking to establish whether other people may have been deceived in a similar manner. Police are also expected to verify the suspect’s professional credentials and establish the extent of her alleged activities. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has meanwhile urged members of the public to confirm the qualifications and professional status of individuals offering legal services before making payments or handing over important personal documents.
