The mother of a twelve year old boy who was shot nine times allegedly by police during the Gen Z protests last year is crying for justice and has accused human rights groups of abandoning her.

A distraught Jacinta Anyanyo has also blamed the president for neglecting her in their quest for justice accusing President William Ruto of failing to fulfill his promises to her.

Anyango broke down on Thursday at the Milimani Law courts claiming that shortly after her son’s death, Denis Itumbi called her, informing her that the president wanted to speak with her. During their conversation, Ruto allegedly assured her of his support in seeking justice.

“He told me not to worry, that he would ensure justice is served. But since then, nothing has happened. I feel abandoned,” Anyango said.

She said that further during her mourning period, seven high-ranking politicians visited her home to offer condolences but disappeared after her son’s burial.

On the human rights organizations, Anyango said they had withdrawn their support immediately after the burial, leaving her to fight for justice alone.

She claims that the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) asked her to provide evidence to prosecute the officers responsible. However, she says the only proof she has is the postmortem report confirming her son was shot.

The single mother says raising two children with sickle cell disease is hard especially now while navigating the legal system while also bearing the financial and emotional burden of caring for her family.
