Waititu Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison After Being Found Guilty in 588 M graft case.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu alias Baba Yao has been ordered to pay Sh 53.7 M fine failure to which he will serve a 12 years prison sentence.

However, his wife Susan Wangari got off easy as she was ordered to pay Sh 500,000 fine or serve one year in jail which she has already done.

Engineer Luca Mwangi who was convicted alongside Waititu for abuse of office for improperly awarding the tender to testimony enterprises limited has been fined Sh 21 M in default to serve 7 years in prison.

Charles Chege who was convicted alongside his wife Beth Wagechi Mburu for engaging in fraudulent practices in a procurement was fined a total of Ksh 297.5 million in default to serve 11 years in Prison.

His wife Beth Wagechi Mburu was fined Sh 1.4 million in default to serve 3 years in prison.

Chege got the highest and most harsh sentence because he was the contractor who was awarded the tender and paid then gave Waititu Sh 25 M kickback.

Further, Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki issued an order barring convicts from holding any public office for a period of ten years.

The five were convicted alongside their companies for conflict of interest in a Ksh.588 million graft case.

The court acquitted them on three counts of money laundering.
