Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohammed Amin have yet again been summoned to appear before court on Friday over abduction of four men in Mulolongo.
Justice Chacha Mwita ordered the IG and DCI boss to immediately release the three individuals abducted in Mulolongo and further appear in court in person on Friday at 10 a.m. without fail.
This is after the two police bosses failed to appear in court to address allegations regarding the abduction of four men in Mlolongo.
They had been summoned to appear in court and produce Justus Mutumwa, Martin Mwau, and Karani Mwema, who are believed to have been held incommunicado by the police.
However, during today’s court mention, neither IG Kanja nor DCI Amin made an appearance both physically or virtually.
Additionally, no lawyer was present to represent them or explain their absence.
Meanwhile, the DPP has asked the court to remove his office as a respondent in the case, arguing that the office has no role in the execution of arrests or detention of individuals.
“From the orders granted in this petition, my Lord, the DPP has no role in matters involving abductions, arrests, or detention. We therefore pray that the DPP be expunged from these proceedings,” the lawyer submitted.
The DPP’s lawyer also stated that he had only received the court summons this morning, leaving him with insufficient time to prepare a substantive response to counter the petition.
