A former Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) employee has been arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts over the alleged theft of more than KSh 1.1 million.

Amos Kahuro Njuguna appeared before Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, facing a charge of stealing by servant, contrary to Section 281 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, Njuguna is accused of stealing KSh 1,117,375.45 on diverse dates between September 20, 2025, and December 30, 2025. Prosecutors allege that the money belonged to Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited and came into his possession by virtue of his employment at the bank’s Nairobi head office.

In an alternative charge, Njuguna is accused of handling stolen property, with the prosecution claiming he dishonestly received the funds while knowing, or having reason to believe, that they were stolen.

The accused pleaded not guilty, triggering submissions on bail. Njuguna urged the court to grant more lenient terms, but the prosecution opposed any reduction, arguing that the proposed bail reflected both the amount involved and the seriousness of the offence.

After considering the arguments, the court upheld a bond of KSh 1 million or a cash bail of KSh 500,000. Njuguna was remanded in custody pending the fulfillment of the bail terms, and the case is set for pre-trial on January 21, 2026.
