A matatu driver who sped away from a traffic police officer along Valley Road has been fined Ksh 70,000 after telling a Nairobi court that he fled the scene because he was suffering from sudden, acute diarrhoea.
Donald Owuor Ndeda, the driver of a Ganya Sacco minibus, Isuzu KDQ 547R, appeared before the Milimani Magistrates Court to answer six traffic charges linked to the November 19, 2025 incident that went viral online.
The prosecution told the court that Ndeda was captured on video accelerating away as an officer attempted to stop him. His actions were described as reckless and dangerous, with prosecutors insisting he put other motorists and passengers at risk.
The court also heard that Ndeda had picked passengers at an unauthorized point along Valley Road, contributing to obstruction and unsafe boarding. He was further accused of operating without the required PSV uniform, ignoring the officer’s verbal instructions, and failing to stop when directed.
His troubles deepened after he skipped his first court appearance on November 21, attracting an additional charge for failing to attend plea taking.
In his defence, Ndeda told the court that he did not intend to evade police and only drove off because he suddenly suffered uncontrollable diarrhoea, forcing him to rush away in panic. His explanation drew whispers and amusement from the courtroom, though the magistrate made it clear that the excuse did not justify his conduct on the road.
After considering the charges, the court imposed a Ksh 70,000 fine and cautioned PSV drivers against putting the public at risk or disregarding lawful police orders.
