The Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) through its chair, Ms. Christine Kungu has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of women and girls following a visit to Henny’s children’s home in Kwale County hosting young survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The visit was aimed at advocating for the rights and welfare of female survivors while highlighting the need for continued support, protection and access to justice for women and girls affected by gender-based violence. FIDA-Kenya used the visit to engage with survivors and demonstrate its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable women and girls are not left behind in efforts to address SGBV.
The organization emphasized the importance of creating safe environments where survivors can access the necessary support to recover from the effects of violence and rebuild their lives. FIDA-Kenya also pledged to remain at the forefront of supporting women and girls who may experience gender-based violence during and after the 2027 General Election period. They noted that elections can create unpredictable and challenging circumstances, making it necessary for stakeholders to remain vigilant and ensure that the rights and safety of women are protected.
FIDA-Kenya vowed to continue working with relevant stakeholders to respond to cases of gender-based violence and advocate for the protection of women’s rights, particularly during periods of heightened political activity. The organization’s commitment comes amid continued calls for stronger measures to prevent violence against women and girls and ensure that survivors receive timely assistance and access to justice.
Through its advocacy and support programmes, FIDA-Kenya seeks to empower women and girls to understand and exercise their rights while strengthening mechanisms for reporting and addressing violations. The visit to the Kwale children’s home further underscored the need for sustained efforts to protect young SGBV survivors and ensure that their welfare remains a priority.
FIDA-Kenya said its work would continue beyond the 2027 elections, with a focus on ensuring that women and girls affected by violence receive the support, protection and justice they deserve.
