A man who threatened to kill his employer for delaying his salary was on Monday sentenced to three years jail term.

This is after Zephaniah Kipkirui Cheruiyot pleaded guilty to sending threatening messages to his employer who had delayed his salary.

Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi convicted him of his own plea of guilty after confessing that on September 21, 2023 he threatened to kill his employer Magret Koech for delaying his salary.

According to the facts of the case, on September 21, Cheruiyot sent to his employer a threatening message.

The message reads “…what is remaining is to inform the police that I chop your head unless you pay me my money 384,000 KHS no less no more I Zephaniah Kipkirui Cheruiyot so help me God” r

He told court his employer had delayed with his salary for years and although he was patient with her, she deliberately refused to pay him.

In mitigation, he pleaded with court for mercy saying he was only acting under emotion after his employer persistently ignored him.

In her ruling, Shitubi said she had taken into consideration that the Cheruiyot was a first offender, however, she noted the cases of employees killing their employers has been on the rise hence a need to issue a deterring sentence.

” I have taken into consideration that he is a first offender, I have also taken his mitigation into consideration, however the cases of employees threatening to kill their employers has been rampant, this is a serious offence and the convict will serve three years in prison he has a right of appeal within fourteen days.”the court ruled.
