The plea-taking of five suspects accused of the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso has been adjourned to September 29, 2026, to allow the prosecution to consolidate the case files and have all the accused physically presented in court.
The suspects; Rose Mbithe, her son Chris Mulwa, her daughter Angela Mulwa, police officer Elijah Kibelion and Kimutai were due to appear before Milimani High Court Judge Alexander Muteti today for plea taking. However, the court was sitting virtually, prompting the judge to defer the plea-taking until next Tuesday, when the five are expected to be produced physically in open court.
The court directed that the files relating to the five suspects be consolidated before the plea is taken. The five are facing murder charges in connection with the killing of Dr Mutiso, who was shot dead in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on July 29, 2026.
Preliminary investigations confirm that Dr Mutiso was travelling in an Uber along Mbagathi Link Road near the junction with Mawezi Road when armed men riding a motorcycle reportedly blocked the vehicle and opened fire. She sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and head and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital. She was, however, pronounced dead on arrival after suffering severe blood loss.
Police subsequently launched investigations into the killing, leading to the identification and arrest of the five suspects. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) later proposed murder charges against them.
They are expected in Court on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
