City Lawyer Decries Political Witch-Hunt Amid Protest Fallout, Vows to File Complaint Against MP

Ongata Rongai, Kenya Prominent human rights lawyer Shadrack Wambui has come out strongly against what he described as a politically orchestrated witch-hunt, following his involvement in recent protests that rocked parts of Nairobi’s outskirts.

Flanked by senior lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta outside Rongai Police Station, Wambui condemned a summons issued against him by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), terming it vague, unjustified, and an act of political intimidation.

“This was a genuine protest rooted in the frustrations of ordinary Kenyans. But some individuals hijacked the movement, organized parallel demonstrations, and planted hired goons to cause chaos. Now they are using the same chaos as an excuse to come after me,” Wambui told journalists.

He disclosed that he had already secured anticipatory bail and was out on bond, but vowed to fight what he called a targeted attempt to silence dissenting voices. Wambui also revealed plans to file a formal complaint against a sitting Member of Parliament, whom he accused of engineering the harassment campaign.

“We came here in good faith as law-abiding citizens, but we will not take this lying down. If speaking out against injustice makes me a target, so be it,” he said defiantly.

Wambui’s legal team questioned the legality of the summons, citing lack of transparency from investigators and failure to disclose the identity of the complainant. Omari and Ombeta warned that the matter had now escalated into a broader fight for civil liberties.

“This is nothing short of persecution by people who believe in goonism. We will not allow such tactics to succeed,” Wambui declared.
