Gospel musician Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, has been released on a cash bail of Sh1 million in connection with a Sh50 million land fraud case.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego granted bail to Apoko and his co-accused, Alfred Juma Ayora. Each was given the option of paying a Sh1 million cash bail or posting a bond of Sh3 million.

In making her decision, Magistrate Alego said she considered a prebail report submitted by the probation officer.

Apoko had been in custody since April 15, 2025.

The two are accused of defrauding businesswoman Teresiah Adhiambo Odhiambo of a prime parcel of land in Karen, identified as NAIROBI/BLOCK 99/142 and measuring approximately 0.1908 hectares.

According to the prosecution, the alleged conspiracy to commit fraud took place on or before February 28, 2023.

The two reportedly claimed adverse possession of the property, asserting that they had lived on the land for over two years—a claim the prosecution says is knowingly false.

Ayora faces an additional charge for allegedly appearing before advocate S.M. Katonya and falsely swearing an affidavit, claiming to have resided on the property for two decades. He is also accused of providing false testimony in an affidavit submitted in a case before the Environment and Land Court, where he was the petitioner and Odhiambo, along with the Chief Land Registrar, were respondents.

The prosecution initially opposed Ringtone’s release on bail, arguing that he posed a flight risk, having previously failed to appear in court since March. However, the defense successfully appealed for his release, citing his deteriorating health and need for medical treatment.
