IT Expert Ndiangui Kinyangia Says He Went Into Hiding Over Fear for His Life

IT expert Ndiangui Kinyangia, who had been reported missing, has told the court that he was not abducted as earlier feared but instead went into hiding due to concerns for his personal safety.

Through his lawyer, senior counsel Martha Karua, Ndiangui explained that his disappearance was a deliberate decision driven by fear of being targeted, citing cases in which individuals allegedly abducted by police were later found dead.

“By going into hiding, it was the way any reasonable person would act,” Karua told the court, defending her client’s decision to remain unreachable and without a phone.

The court also heard that Ndiangui’s mother, who had sought the intervention of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), genuinely believed her son had been abducted. Karua argued that the mother’s actions were natural for any concerned parent, especially given the rising number of enforced disappearances in the country.

Ndiangui further claimed that during his absence, police officers unlawfully accessed his home, changed the locks, and conducted a search without his consent. He insisted that going underground was the only reasonable option available to him at the time.

Now that he has resurfaced, Ndiangui urged the court to close the matter, stressing that his fears were genuine and informed by the disturbing pattern of abductions and extrajudicial killings previously reported in Kenya
