Patiala Distillers K Limited has denied allegations circulating on social media linking the alcohol manufacturer to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. In a statement through their lawyers led by Danstan Omari, the company rejected claims of an association with Kindiki and dismissed allegations questioning the authenticity of its alcoholic products.
Patiala maintained that it is a licensed manufacturer operating in Kenya and does not produce or sell counterfeit alcohol. It said counterfeit goods bearing its brand names should not be attributed to the company. The denial comes as Kindiki orders fresh inspections of all alcohol manufacturing premises across the country as part of a renewed crackdown on illicit and counterfeit drinks.
The Deputy President said manufacturers would undergo fresh vetting even where they hold valid licences, with those found producing alcohol harmful to consumers facing closure. The inspections will assess compliance with health, quality and other regulatory requirements, following renewed concerns over deaths linked to unsafe brews, particularly in parts of the Mt Kenya region.
Patiala urged consumers to report suspicious products and outlets to the company or enforcement agencies.
