The Late Jeff Mwathi who was found dead at DJ Faxto’s home had attempted suicide once before his untimely death.

This came out during the inquest into the death of Jeff when Fatxo’s lawyer was cross-examining the first witness to the testify.

Lawyer Duncan Okatch was cross-examining Stephen Muchoki an uncle of the late Jeff who was the first family member at the scene.

Muchoki had told trial magistrate Zainabu Abdul that he was very close to his late nephew and he was a normal child and showed no signs of stress.

However, Okatch said there were witnesses who have said that Jeff was

suicidal because of the bad relationship between his parents who had separated.

“Do you know that there are witnesses who have testified that Jeff wanted to kill himself because of his parent’s strenuous relationship. Do you know he used to get stress especially when drank and one time he held a knife threatening to kill himself,” Okatch posed.

Muchoki denied the allegations by Okatch saying all the years he knew Jeff he was okay and never seemed stressed.

Okatch further said that evidence in court also showed that Jeff was struggling financially and he didn’t even have a belt or underwear when he died.

“Do you know that he didn’t even have fare that day so he borrowed his mother 200. Do you also know that he would borrow money to pay Uber for his girlfriend,” Okatch posed

Muchoki in response told court that he was not aware that Jeff did not have money.

Okatch also asked him if he was aware that Jeff was not taken to university immediately after high school but his younger brother was enrolled immediately

“Yes, but it’s Jeff who went to inquire for a university for his young brother and when he came back, he told his mother he also wanted to join and they did,” Muchoki answered.
