Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed has secured a temporary reprieve after the Sports Disputes Tribunal issued orders halting the implementation of resolutions that sought to remove him from office.

In directions issued on Monday, April 27, 2026, the tribunal certified the matter as urgent and granted an interim injunction barring the respondents from enforcing decisions made during the April 24 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The ruling effectively preserves Mohamed’s position pending further proceedings.

“The Tribunal grants a temporary order of injunction restraining the Respondents, whether by effecting the entire Resolutions as passed on 24th April 2026, until the Mention date stated,” the tribunal ordered.

The case was filed by Ahmed Abdi Mohamed, an FKF official, who moved to challenge the legality of the NEC resolutions. His application, submitted under a certificate of urgency alongside a Notice of Motion and supporting affidavits, prompted swift intervention by the tribunal. Deputy Chairperson Hon. Allan Mola Owinyi, who is leading the panel, emphasized the urgency and weight of the dispute, noting its potential impact on football governance in the country. A three-member bench comprising Owinyi, Hon. Luke Wamugunda, and Hon. Victor Omwebu has been constituted to hear the matter.

The tribunal has set strict timelines to fast-track the case. The applicant has been directed to serve all pleadings and supporting documents to the respondents and interested parties by midday on April 29, 2026. In turn, the respondents must file and serve their responses by 12:00 p.m. on May 4, 2026.

“Owing to the exigency of this matter, the Parties may also make oral representations during the Mention,” the tribunal stated, signaling that oral submissions will be allowed in addition to written filings.

The matter is scheduled for mention on May 5, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams, where the tribunal will confirm compliance and give further directions on the hearing.

Mohamed’s suspension had been announced following the April 24 NEC meeting, where members resolved to oust him over a KSh42.4 million controversy linked to a disputed CHAN insurance payment and alleged procurement irregularities. Following the developments, global football body FIFA requested FKF to submit detailed documentation regarding the suspension. This includes evidence on how the NEC meeting was convened, quorum verification, voting records, and confirmation that Mohamed was accorded a fair hearing.

FIFA also demanded a formal justification for the suspension, alongside all supporting reports, correspondence, and materials relied upon in reaching the decision, as scrutiny over the federation’s governance intensifies.
