Two women have been arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after authorities reportedly intercepted them with approximately 658 grams of suspected gold.

The suspects, identified as Mahamed Shukri Abdulahi and Sabriye Farhiyo Hussein, were stopped by a multi-agency team in the early hours of September 4, 2026, while preparing to travel to Dubai aboard an Emirates flight.

During a search, officers allegedly discovered a 541-gram gold bar concealed in Abdulahi’s hair. The item had reportedly been wrapped with a hairband and placed underneath her hijab.

Hussein was also allegedly found carrying a gold pellet weighing approximately 116.79 grams, which had been concealed inside her bra.

The two were taken into custody as authorities continued processing the case ahead of their expected arraignment.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), together with other agencies, said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal mining and the unlawful movement of minerals out of the country.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
