DCI officer, Daniel Mburu Macharia, has been charged with manslaughter over the death of his wife, Florence Nyagah, in Kasarani, Nairobi. Macharia, who is attached to the DCI headquarters and has previously been identified as an officer in the Anti-Narcotics Unit, appeared before the Makadara Law Courts where the murder allegation against him was reduced to a manslaughter charge following investigations.
The court heard that Macharia allegedly stabbed Nyagah at their residence along Lumumba Drive in the Roysambu area of Kasarani. Nyagah, 43, was found dead inside the apartment on March 1, 2026, after her daughter became concerned when repeated attempts to reach her by phone went unanswered.
Macharia was arrested after surrendering himself to police in Naivasha. At the time, investigators told the Makadara court that he was the last person seen with Nyagah and that the couple had quarrelled shortly before her death. He was subsequently detained as detectives sought to complete investigations.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, lawyer Gloria Amondi, representing the complainant, opposed Macharia’s release on bond. She argued that the accused had allegedly issued threats to the deceased’s daughter and, given his position as a police officer, could interfere with more than 10 witnesses expected to testify in the case. The defence, however, urged the court to consider releasing Macharia on bond.
Makadara Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali is expected to deliver a ruling on whether Macharia will be released on bond tomorrow afternoon.
