A 47-year-old man has been arrested in Kibra, Nairobi, following the death of his nine-year-old daughter, who police say sustained severe injuries in an alleged assault.
The incident was reported on September 6, 2026, after officers at Kibra Police Station received information that the child had been seriously injured.
Police, accompanied by members of the community policing team, responded to the reported incident and proceeded to the location. By the time they arrived, the suspect had reportedly taken the injured girl to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment. The officers followed them to the facility, where they were informed that the child had died upon arrival.
A preliminary examination reportedly found several bruises and swellings on the child’s body, alongside an injury involving an upper incisor tooth. Medical examination also indicated that the child had allegedly suffered sexual assault. The girl’s body was subsequently transferred to Nairobi Funeral Home, where it remains pending a postmortem examination to establish the circumstances and cause of her death.
The suspect, identified as Norman Swahili, remains in police custody as detectives continue investigations ahead of his expected arraignment.
Authorities have urged members of the public to report cases of violence and abuse, particularly those involving children, and reiterated that anyone found responsible will face due legal process.
The suspect has not been convicted, and the allegations against him remain subject to investigation and determination by the court.
