Police in Kiambaa have opened investigations into the death of a 46-year-old man whose body was found at a police station in the early hours of Sunday.
Joseph Kamau Wainaina was found at the report office of Kiambaa Police Post after he allegedly became trapped in the office grills while attempting to squeeze through them. The incident was reported at about 2:55am on September 20, 2026, by Police Constable Paul Tota, who was on duty at the report office.
Wainaina’s sister, Nancy Wairimu Wainaina, told police that her brother had a history of mental illness and had exhibited signs of hallucinations before the incident. Following the report, the Officer Commanding Station at Karuri Police Station, the duty officer, the duty non-commissioned officer and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kiambaa visited the scene.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Kiambu also examined the area and documented evidence that could assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the death. The scene was located about three kilometres north of the police station.
After processing the body, CSI officers had it transferred to the mortuary at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The DCI Kiambaa team is continuing with investigations to establish the circumstances that led to Wainaina’s death.
