A former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officer has been fined Sh80,000 after being convicted of presenting a false academic document in an attempt to secure a promotion.
Milimani Anti-Corruption Court convicted George Kipyatich Kibor on September 17, 2026, after finding him guilty of using a false document. The court ordered Kibor to pay the Sh80,000 fine, with an eight-month prison term to apply if he fails to settle the amount.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said its investigations established that Kibor used a forged Bachelor of Business Management degree certificate in Finance and Banking, which purported to have been issued by Moi University. According to the commission, Kibor presented the document while seeking promotion from Grade 8 to Grade 7 at the electoral commission.
He was subsequently arrested and arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on March 10, 2026, where he faced charges relating to the alleged forgery and use of the certificate.
The court, however, acquitted him on the forgery-related charge while convicting him for using the false document. EACC welcomed the conviction and sentence, saying the outcome sends a warning to individuals who use fraudulent documents in pursuit of employment or career advancement.
The commission said it would continue pursuing cases involving the use of false academic credentials and other fraudulent documents.
