Two police officers attached to Kinjo Police Patrol Base in Meru County have been arrested over allegations of defiling a three-and-a-half-year-old girl. The officers, identified as Police Constables Nicholas Njagi and James Mutabari, were taken into custody at Kariene Police Station on October 11, 2026, as investigations into the alleged offence continued.
According to police reports, the case came to light after the child’s mother, a resident of Kinjo Market, raised concerns about her daughter’s condition on the evening of October 9, after the minor had been playing outside. The child reportedly told her mother that a man she knew as “Baba” had carried her on his shoulders to a house, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted using an object she described as a large needle or syringe.
Investigators said two children, aged seven and 12, who had been sent to search for the missing girl, reportedly found her inside a house occupied by Constable Njagi.
A subsequent medical examination at Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Meru documented injuries, including lacerations and swelling, as well as fluid presence. A P3 medical examination form was completed as part of the investigation.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Imenti Central Sub-County launched investigations into the allegations, examined the scene and collected two bedsheets for forensic analysis. Police further reported that the child identified both officers during an identification parade conducted at Kariene Police Station.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Githongo Law Courts, where the prosecution intends to seek orders allowing investigators additional time to complete their inquiries. The allegations against the officers have not been proven in court.
