Police have arrested five suspects and seized cannabis sativa in separate anti-narcotics operations conducted in Busia, Homa Bay, Kitui, Murang’a and Wajir counties.
The arrests followed intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug trafficking and distribution networks in the five areas.
In Busia, detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) intercepted Abubakar Omar Rajab at the main bus stage as he prepared to board a bus heading to Nairobi.
A search of his black bag reportedly uncovered a large bale of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow cello tape. He was arrested and taken to Busia Police Station pending arraignment.
In Homa Bay, officers raided a house in Rodi Township suspected of being used to store illicit drugs. The operation led to the recovery of 64 rolls of bhang and the arrest of Elijah Ochieng Alfred, who remained in custody awaiting arraignment.
In Kitui County, a multi-agency security team manning a roadblock at Kivandini along the Thika–Garissa Highway intercepted a public service vehicle travelling from Nairobi towards Mwingi.
During a search of passengers, officers allegedly found 325 rolls of cannabis sativa concealed in a jacket belonging to Nicholas Mathumbi Kitati. He was arrested and escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station.
Meanwhile, in Murang’a County, officers from Kigumo Police Station arrested Evans Karanja Mwaura in Kangari Township following a tip-off.
A search of his silver Toyota Fielder reportedly led to the recovery of 150 rolls of bhang and assorted rolling papers. The recovered items were kept as exhibits, while the vehicle was detained as investigations continued.
In Wajir County, detectives arrested Abdnasir Jelle in an operation that resulted in the recovery of ten bales of cannabis sativa. He was taken into custody for processing ahead of his expected arraignment.
The operations form part of ongoing police efforts to disrupt the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances across the country.
The suspects are yet to be convicted of any offence, and the allegations against them remain subject to the legal process.
