Two women have been charged with conspiracy to defraud a customer who ordered 7,500 chicks valued at Sh 1,387,500 but allegedly received none despite paying Sh 530,000 towards the supply.
Marysella Naswa Kanda and Angela Kendi were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ngong, where they faced a charge of conspiracy to defraud, contrary to Section 317 of the Penal Code. The prosecution alleges that the complainant paid the money to secure the supply of the chicks but the consignment was never delivered, prompting investigations into the transaction.
The court granted each of the accused persons cash bail of Sh 250,000 or an alternative bond of Sh 300,000. The case is scheduled for mention on November 9, 2026.
Investigations commenced after the complainant reported the alleged fraud at Kiserian Police Station, stating that they had ordered 7,500 chicks worth Sh 1,387,500 but failed to receive the consignment despite making payments totalling Sh 530,000. According to the complaint, the first payment of Sh 350,000 was deposited into a Co-operative Bank account operated under the name Japlead Global Feed on September 13, 2026. The account was reportedly operated by Marysella, who is said to own the business. The complainant subsequently deposited another Sh 180,000 into the same account on September 16, 2026, after allegedly being promised that the chicks would be delivered ahead of schedule.
However, the consignment was never delivered, despite the two payments amounting to Sh 530,000, leading the complainant to report the matter to the police. Following the report, officers from Kiserian Police Station launched investigations into the alleged fraud to establish the circumstances surrounding the transaction and identify those suspected to have been involved.
As part of the investigations, police officers conducted an undercover operation in which they posed as prospective customers seeking to purchase chicks. The operation was intended to gather information that would assist investigators in tracing the suspects linked to the alleged scheme. The operation led to Marysella’s arrest in Kitengela, with the assistance of local police officers. Angela was also arrested in connection with the alleged fraud.
The two women were subsequently presented before the Ngong court and charged with conspiracy to defraud. The charge relates to the alleged scheme involving the supply of chicks valued at Sh 1.38 million, for which the complainant reportedly paid Sh 530,000 without receiving the ordered consignment.
The accused persons were released on bond pending the hearing of the case, with the matter set for mention on November 9, 2026.
