Police in Machakos County have arrested 19 people following a raid targeting an alleged illicit alcohol brewing operation in Misuuni Village, Mumbuni Location.
The operation was carried out on August 15, 2026, by officers from Machakos Police Station after receiving intelligence on the suspected production and distribution of illegal brews at the homestead.
Officers who conducted the search recovered 60 litres of chang’aa and 710 litres of kang’ara. They also seized 25 kilograms of ammonium chloride, 10 kilograms of sugar and various items believed to have been used in the brewing process.
The 19 suspects were taken to Machakos Police Station and placed in custody as officers processed the case for court. The seized alcohol and brewing materials were retained as exhibits.
Police say the operation is part of wider efforts to disrupt the manufacture and sale of illicit alcohol, which remains a concern in parts of the county.
Investigations are expected to establish the extent of the alleged operation and whether other individuals were involved in the production or distribution of the brews.
