West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Fredrick Kaptui Plimo and eight others have been charged with allegedly defrauding Eco-Pillar Sacco Society Limited of Sh. 260 million in a scheme that prosecutors say ran for seven years.
The nine are accused of conspiring to steal Sh. 260,008,100 from the Sacco between 2018 and 2025 through fraudulent financial transactions. The alleged scheme involved manipulating the Sacco’s computer systems, opening fictitious accounts, processing fake loans and transferring money from Sacco accounts into personal bank accounts without authorisation.
Those charged alongside Plimo are Linus Lokira, Kodich Ward MCA Paul Lokitari Ywapamoi, Leonard Pchakas an Domoita, Nicholas Toroitich Arusho, Andrew Poriot Lorema, Susan Chesang, Florence Chemotwo and Francis Atodosia. Some of the accused previously served in senior management positions at the Sacco, including as chief executive officers and finance and ICT officers.
The accused face several charges, including conspiracy to defraud, stealing by servant, cheating, unauthorised interference with a computer system and abuse of office.
Plimo, Ywapamoi and Atodosia did not appear in court for plea-taking. The court summoned them to appear on November 5, 2026, warning that warrants of arrest could be issued if they fail to attend.
The six accused who appeared in court denied the charges. The court scheduled November 2, 2026, for a ruling on their bond terms and ordered that they remain in custody pending the decision.
