In today’s court news, Philip Aroko, a suspect in the murder of Hon. Charles Were, has withdrawn a habeas corpus application he had filed against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Aroko, through his legal team led by Advocate Danstan Omari, informed the court that the application was no longer necessary and had been overtaken by events after he was presented before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at JKIA on May 9, 2025.

Advocate Omari explained to Justice Muteti that the habeas corpus petition was originally filed due to an unreasonable delay in producing Aroko before a competent court within the legally required 24-hour period.

Despite the court issuing habeas corpus orders instructing the state to present Aroko by May 12, 2025, the authorities produced him earlier on May 9, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m. thereby rendering the petition redundant.

In light of this, Aroko directed his lawyers to withdraw the application, stating that the objective of having him brought before the court had already been fulfilled.

Omari further emphasized that Aroko is a public figure and a prominent political figure with nothing to hide, as he intends to vie for the Kasipul Constituency parliamentary seat.
