The family of the late slain Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto has threatened to sue the university management for the loss of their daughter which they argue was preventable and tragic.
Through Lobby group Sheria Mtaani na Shadrack Wambui, they issued a seven-day ultimatum to the institution, demanding an admission of liability for what they term a “preventable and tragic loss.”
In a letter signed by Patron Danstan Omari, Sheria Mtaani accuses the university of gross negligence following the brutal murder of the 19-year-old on campus.
They noted that the suspect, Philip Eric Mutinda, a fellow student, is said to have gained access to the hostel and attacked Kemunto.
Interestingly, Prior to her death, Kemunto had reportedly complained of harassment by the suspect—concerns the family says were ignored by university authorities.

The family has also condemned the university for what they describe as a “cold and deliberate silence,” claiming that the institution has not extended even a word of condolence to the bereaved.
“Such indifference is as cruel as the act itself,” the letter reads.
Sheria Mtaani has warned that failure by the university to respond within seven days will trigger legal proceedings, including a petition to the Commission for University Education seeking revocation of the university’s Charter under Section 22 of the Universities Act.
