The Director of Public Prosecutions has urged the court to bar former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu from holding public office especially from vying for any political seat.
While making submissions before his sentencing, the prosecution asked the magistrate to give a deterrent sentence and also consider the seriousness of the offense.
Earlier in the day, Waititu and his wife were jointly convicted in the corruption case involving over Sh 588 million.
Waititu now becomes the second governor to be found guilty of corruption after former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal.
In his ruling, Magistrate Thomas Nziyoki stated that the tender was fraudulent, lacking essential documentation, and that the company awarded the contract, Testimony Enterprises Limited, was incapable of executing the project.
