Chief Justice Martha Koome on Tuesday administered the oath of office to Ali Abdullahi Surraw as the new Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, the Chief Justice urged Mr. Surraw to uphold integrity, independence and professionalism as he assumes leadership of the constitutional commission tasked with setting and reviewing the remuneration and benefits of state officers and other public servants.

Justice Koome emphasized that the SRC plays a critical role in safeguarding public resources and maintaining fairness and transparency in public compensation, noting that the commission’s work has a direct impact on public confidence in governance.

She reminded the new CEO that the Constitution demands fidelity to the law, impartiality and service to the people of Kenya, adding that leadership at the SRC must remain insulated from political pressure and personal interests.

In his remarks, Mr. Surraw pledged to discharge his duties with integrity, diligence and professionalism. He said he was committed to faithfully serving the Kenyan people and ensuring that the SRC delivers on its constitutional mandate.

The appointment comes at a time when public debate around salaries, allowances and fiscal sustainability remains heightened, placing the SRC at the centre of key national conversations on governance and public finance.
