The suspect accused of killing a General Service Unit (GSU) officer stationed at State House will remain in police custody for an additional two weeks before taking plea on the murder charge.

Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, who has been detained for over a month, was expected to take plea today before the High Court in Kibera. However, the session was deferred to November 27, 2025, after the court was informed that the accused has not yet undergone a mental assessment a standard procedure in Kenya’s criminal justice system before one is charged with murder.

Musyimi is accused of murdering GSU officer Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka, who was manning one of the gates at State House at the time of his death.

According to police reports, Musyimi was arrested on October 13, 2025, along Denis Pritt Road, near State House Gate D.

Investigations indicate that he was allegedly armed with a bow and arrow concealed inside a blue sack and was posing as a street dweller before the attack.

He is said to have approached Officer Matanka, who was on duty at a security checkpoint, and shot him in the left side of the chest, causing severe bleeding.

Witnesses told police that the suspect had hidden behind a vehicle undergoing inspection before releasing the fatal arrow.

The injured officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

The killing of Officer Matanka has shocked many Kenyans and his family, given that the incident occurred at the gates of State House one of the most heavily guarded installations in the country and home to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

The tragic incident has raised questions about the level of security preparedness around State House and the effectiveness of surveillance measures meant to protect such a critical national installation.
