Lugari MP Nabii Nabwere threatens to sue bloggers for defamation

A dispute has emerged in Lugari after three Kakamega-based bloggers accused Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwere of being linked to the disappearance of a school principal.

The allegations stem from a road accident that occurred on November 3 along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway involving Simon Isiaho Shange, the principal of Munyuki High School, who went missing shortly after the crash.

Through his lawyer, Danstan Omari, Nabwere has issued formal demand letters to the bloggers; George Opunga Tamata, Peter Amunya, and Simon Asievela, accusing them of publishing false and misleading claims about Nabwere

The letters, dated between November 7 and 8, give the bloggers 12 hours to delete all defamatory posts from their online platforms, including Malava Online and Kakamega Post.
The MP is also demanding KSh 20 million as compensation for the damage to his reputation and a public apology.

Omari, speaking on behalf of his client, said the publications were meant to damage the MP’s image and stir political tension in the region.

“ These publications are politically motivated and meant to paint him in bad light , ”
part of the letter read.

He further added that Nabwere had a good working relationship with the missing principal and has always been committed to fair resource distribution in Lugari Constituency. He dismissed the bloggers’ claims as baseless and politically instigated.
