Sarah Cohen Faces New Charge of lying to The police

Trouble for Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, popularly known as Sarah Cohen, has deepened after the prosecution brought yet another criminal charge against her.

Wairimu, who has been held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison over the alleged murder of her husband, Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, was on Friday arraigned before the Kibera Magistrates Court to answer charges of giving false information to police.

According to the prosecution, on February 20, 2023, at Munyange Police Station in Othaya Sub-County, Wairimu allegedly provided misleading information to a Chief Inspector by falsely claiming that her passport had been lost, prompting the issuance of a police abstract.

She faces a second count of false swearing, with prosecutors alleging that on the same date, she knowingly swore a false affidavit before a duly commissioned advocate of the High Court declaring her Kenyan passport missing.

Appearing before Magistrate Zainab Abdul, Wairimu denied all charges. The prosecution urged the court to deny her bond, noting that the High Court had already rejected her bail application in the ongoing murder case.

Tob Cohen was killed in 2019, and Wairimu is the prime suspect in the murder.

Although the initial charges were withdrawn in 2022, she was re-arrested in January 2025 after the DPP reopened the case, citing new evidence and concerns over flaws in the original investigation.

She remains in custody after repeated bail denials over fears of flight risk and possible interference with witnesses.
