A fresh twist has now emerged in the Muthaiga couple divorce case as the husband now claims that his wife has adamantly refused to sign divorce papers even after settling her.
Shakir Merali and Scholastica Kimani are embroiled in a bitter divorce case before court with Merali seeking to be granted divorce after the wife refused to sign.
In court documents filed in court, Merali claims that he has been unhappy in the marriage because they didn’t marry out of love but because she got pregnant while they in the UK in 1999.
He says that they had agreed that once the kids were out of the nest then they would each go their separate ways and divorce.
According to court papers, their last born left for the UK last month and they had already told the kids of their plans.
However, the wife changed completely and refused to sign the papers making it difficult to separate amicably.
In fact, he claims that Schola as he fondly calls her tore the divorce papers in front of the kids and put it in mouth then later flushed it down the toilet.
He says they had an agreement that he would settle her which he did.
Some of her demands before changing her mind included a plot in Kilifi, 120,000 USD for son’s schools fees, being assisted to settle down in the UK.
She agreed to move out of their Muthaiga mansion and also collecting 60,000 USD she has refused to give him divorce.
He has denied ever being cruel against her saying he wanted some peace and quiet in his last leg on earth saying he knows he might not leave past 75 years.
