Activist Boniface Mwangi scored a significant legal victory on Tuesday after a Nairobi court ordered his release, along with four other individuals, in connection with the Gen Z Maandamano protests.
Mwangi, alongside Albert Wambugu, Robert Otieno, Pablo Chacha, and Erot Franco, was set free after the court denied the prosecution’s request for an additional two weeks to complete their investigations against the group.
In a further ruling, the court directed that the cash bail deposited by Mwangi and his co-accused be refunded to them.
The five had been under investigation for allegedly publishing false material, unlawful assembly, and creating a disturbance. With the court’s decision, Mwangi and his co-accused are now free, pending any further legal action by the prosecution.
