A suspected counterfeit juice production operation has been uncovered at a homestead in Muthua, Kabete, following a tip-off from a member of the public. Detectives from Kabete Police Station raided the premises and found two men, Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala, allegedly engaged in the manufacture of counterfeit juice. The two were arrested during the operation.
A search of the compound led to the seizure of about 1,400 bottles containing suspected counterfeit juice, with the bottles measuring 200ml and 300ml. Police also recovered 56 cartons of empty bottles, five packets of bottle tops, two blue drums and three basins. Among the other items seized were office glue, rubber stamps, ink and various stickers. Detectives also found an expired certificate bearing authorisation to use the Standardisation Mark associated with a known juice brand.
Several unidentified powdery and colourless substances were also recovered. They had been packaged in 50-gram portions and in 200ml and 300ml bottles. Crime Scene Investigation officers later processed the premises, while the seized materials were taken into police custody as exhibits.
The two suspects remain in custody as detectives continue with investigations into the alleged counterfeit production operation.
