The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released new details regarding the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Reverend Julius Ndumia in Nakuru County, as detectives intensify efforts to track down the suspects behind the deadly attack.

Reverend Ndumia was killed after armed assailants reportedly broke into his residence and church office on the night of Sunday, May 3, 2026. During the violent incident, the attackers stole cash, mobile phones, and several other valuables before fleeing the scene.

The church watchman who was on duty during the attack was also seriously injured after being assaulted by the suspects. He was rushed to hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

In an update issued by investigators, the DCI said early findings have linked the killing to a dangerous criminal gang believed to be behind a series of violent armed robberies reported across Nakuru County in recent months.

According to detectives, members of the gang allegedly disguise themselves in security forces uniforms to avoid suspicion and gain access to their targets. Investigators further revealed that the suspects are known to use an L1A1 firearm during their operations, raising concerns over the sophistication and organization of the criminal network.

The same gang is also being connected to another robbery case in which more than KSh600,000 was allegedly stolen from a victim through unauthorized bank transfers to mobile money accounts believed to belong to members of the group.

The DCI stated that investigators are currently carrying out advanced forensic analysis as part of efforts to place the suspects at the murder scene and strengthen the case against them.

Detectives say investigations remain active, with authorities pursuing several leads as they work to dismantle the gang and bring those responsible for Reverend Ndumia’s murder to justice.
