East African Breweries PLC (EABL) has been given 14 days to open a joint account and make a Sh10 million deposit in the ongoing dispute involving media personality Willis Raburu’s Steizon Limited. The directions were issued on Thursday by Senior Principal Magistrate A. Nyoike in Steizon Limited v Game Changer Marketing Limited and East African Breweries PLC. The matter came up for mention for directions on an application dated July 23, 2026.
Steizon Limited through Lawyer Danstan Omari informed the court that it had filed a response dated August 12, 2026, opposing the application. The company has also filed a contempt application dated August 12, 2026, arising from the alleged failure to comply with an earlier court directive requiring the Sh10 million to be deposited in a joint account.
During Thursday’s proceedings, EABL sought more time to comply with the order to enable advocates for the parties to open the joint account and for the brewer to make the deposit. The court granted EABL 14 days for the account to be opened and the deposit to be made.
On the application dated July 23, the court directed the parties to file and serve their respective submissions within 14 days. The case will be mentioned on September 10, 2026, to confirm compliance with the directions, including the opening of the joint account and deposit of the money.
The latest directions come as EABL separately challenges the Sh10 million deposit order before the High Court. The brewer moved to the High Court seeking to stay the magistrate court’s directive, but Justice Linus P. Kassan did not grant interim stay orders at that stage.
Instead, the High Court certified EABL’s application as urgent and directed the company to serve the other parties, paving the way for responses and submissions before the matter proceeds. The effect of the latest magistrate court directions is that EABL has been granted additional time to comply with the deposit requirement, with the court expected to check compliance on September 10.
