Former CS Rashid Echesa’s lawyers have now called for his immediate release on bail saying their client is seriously ill and if he stays one more night in cells he might die.
In a letter to the DCI, Lawyer Danstan Omari says Echesa is under treatment after being diagnosed with a serious medical condition and should be allowed to go to hospital.
Omari has asked the DCI to release their client on bail saying he is ready and willing to cooperate with the investigations.
While addressing the press at Muthaiga Police Station, Omari and Cliff Ombeta said they had written the letter to DCI to ask for the his release.
Omari said Echesa might die if he is not released due to his condition.
Echesa was later whisked away from the police station to the DCI headquarters to record further statements.
