Eight People who Torched Mawego Police Station Charged with Terrorism.

Eight people who are alleged to have burnt down Mawego Police station during late Albert Ojwang’s funeral procession have this morning been charged with Terrorism.

The accused were arraigned before the Kahawa Law Courts in Nairobi where the DPP charged them with terrorism.

The accused include Kennedy Oluoch Oluoch, Nicholas Otieno, Tofiq Owiti Mohamed, Michael Omondi Opiyo, David Bill Clinton Otieno, Robert Ouko Abala, Samuel Ouma Odhiambo, and Erick Obunga Osumba.

They face several charges including terrorism, arson, and malicious damage to government property.

According to the prosecution, the eight men unlawfully stormed and set fire to the Mawego Police Station and its residential quarters, causing extensive damage to government infrastructure belonging to the Republic of Kenya.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Koech, the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Through their lawyer Babu Owino they pleaded with the court to grant them reasonable bail terms.

The prosecution team was led by Principal Prosecution Counsels James Machirah and Kennedy Amwayi, assisted by Kamau and Ms. Wangui.

The court will deliver its ruling on the bail and bond application on July 22, 2025.
