Owners of the Mamliz Towers building in South C, Nairobi, Abdishakur Mohamed and Yussuf Mohamed, have been charged with two counts of manslaughter following the collapse of the building in January 2026 that claimed the lives of two people.

The two appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo alongside their co-accused, Daniel Alphonse Odhiambo and Gideon Chege Gakundi, alias Gideon Chege Mwangi, where they denied all the charges.

The prosecution alleges that the four unlawfully caused the deaths of Ali Adan Galgalo Abdi and Hassan Huka after the Mamliz Towers building collapsed on January 2, 2026, in South C, Lang’ata Sub-County. They were charged with two counts of manslaughter contrary to Section 202 as read with Section 205 of the Penal Code.

Abdishakur Mohamed and Yussuf Mohamed also face additional charges of making documents without lawful authority and uttering false documents.

According to the prosecution, the two allegedly forged a Nairobi City County notification approving a change of user for the land on which Mamliz Towers was constructed and uploaded it to the National Construction Authority (NCA) online project registration system while presenting it as a genuine county document.

They are further accused of forging an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) licence and uploading it to the NCA system as though it had been validly issued by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

The prosecution also charged all four accused with commencing construction of the Mamliz Towers project in February 2024 without first obtaining a valid Environmental Impact Assessment licence, contrary to the Environmental Management and Coordination Act.

The court released each of the four accused on a cash bail of KSh2 million pending the hearing of the case.
