Police Are Investigating Ten Suspected Suicide Cases Reported Across The Country Over The Past Weekend, With Most Victims Being Male.

In Bungoma, 24-year-old Stephen Mlongo hanged himself in his kitchen, while in Kakamega, 28-year-old Gideon Nyongesa set himself on fire using a sofa in his locked house.

A 15-year-old girl in Vihiga reportedly died after ingesting poison, and in Kilifi, 79-year-old Nyundo Ngumbao was found hanged in his home.

In Nairobi’s Kahawa West, 29-year-old Henry Ndika was discovered days after swallowing poison, leaving behind a suicide note.

In Nyeri, 34-year-old Winfred Wangari Njerehu hanged herself using a cloth tied to a roof truss, while in Baringo, 55-year-old Cecilia Ruto was found hanging from a tree after going missing.

In Migori, 25-year-old shopkeeper Julius Ndote’s decomposing body was discovered hanging in his shop after neighbors noticed a foul smell.

In Embu, 59-year-old Joshua Njeru was found dead in his store, and 26-year-old Kelvin Kimanthi hanged himself on an avocado tree.

Police say all bodies are undergoing postmortems and investigations, amid concerns over the rising trend of suicides, attributed to factors like mental health issues, financial struggles, joblessness, substance abuse and family history, with up to two cases now reported daily
