Prof. Ogolla Calls for President Ruto to Resign in Exchange for Amnesty, Proposes Transitional Government

In a bold and unprecedented move, governance expert and political economist Professor Fred Ogolla has issued a clarion call for the establishment of a Transitional Government to steer Kenya toward the 2027 General Elections, proposing that President William Ruto cede the remainder of his term in exchange for amnesty for alleged economic crimes and crimes against humanity.

In a strongly worded press statement released on Monday, Prof. Ogolla declared that Kenya is at a critical turning point, and accused the current administration of exacerbating the nation’s economic decline through misgovernance and politicization of key sectors such as healthcare and education.

“We cannot stand by and watch Kenya deteriorate any further,” Ogolla warned. “We will appeal to President Ruto to cede his remaining term in office, taking a half-term in exchange for amnesty.”

The statement denounced what Ogolla termed a “Politics First, Economy Last” approach by the Ruto administration, blaming it for rampant youth unemployment, abuse of public funds, and a weakened rule of law. He emphasized that the fundamental crisis in Kenya is not political but economic, and called for a leadership that listens to Kenyans and places national interest above political loyalty.

Invoking the Doctrine of Necessity, Prof. Ogolla drew parallels with the 2007 National Accord and the 2022 NADCO process, both of which relied on public pressure to establish inclusive governance frameworks outside normal constitutional provisions.

“We are not asking for a coalition or a broad-based government,” he clarified. “We are calling for a Transition Government comprised of eminent Kenyans who will hold Kenya in trust and organize for the 2027 elections, ensuring they are free and fair.”

The proposal is likely to spark sharp debate across the political divide, with Ogolla positioning himself at the center of a potentially explosive conversation about governance, justice, and accountability in the country’s current leadership.
