A second-hand clothes dealer has been sentenced to seven hours of community service after admitting to fighting in public with a competitor at Ngara Market.
Mohammed Mwaura Keigi pleaded guilty to the charge of affray after it was alleged that he got into a fight with Esther Muia Wambua at the Ngara Figtree Footbridge, causing a public nuisance.
According to the prosecution, the altercation started when the two traders accused each other of trespassing on their respective stalls. The incident occurred as Keigi was passing by Esther’s stall, where she sells clothes, while carrying his sack of second-hand bags to store after closing for the day.
The prosecution detailed that Esther became angry over the alleged trespass, leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight, causing commotion at the market.
While Keigi admitted to the offense, Esther pleaded not guilty and was released on a free bond of Sh 5,000. Keigi was then sentenced to perform seven hours of community service for his role in the altercation.
