Top Lawyers Omari and Ombeta Step In to Defend CEC Geoffrey Mosiria in Contempt Case

Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has turned to top criminal lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta to save him from jail after he was found guilty of contempt of court in the Parklands development case.

Mosiria is expected to appear before the Environment and Land Court in Nairobi on Tuesday for mitigation and sentencing. The court had ruled that he defied orders stopping developments in the Parklands area.

The ruling delivered on October 14, 2025, found Mosiria guilty of issuing excavation and soil transport permits to developers despite a court order halting all development approvals in the area.

A three-judge bench led by Principal Judge O.A. Angote, sitting with Justices A. Omollo and C.G. Mbogo, ruled that the County officer acted in breach of the conservatory order issued on March 5, 2025, restraining Nairobi City County from approving any new projects in Parklands.

Mosiria’s legal team, led by Omari and Ombeta who at one time represented preacher Pastor Ezekiel Odero is expected to challenge the finding and argue that he did not willfully defy the order.

The two lawyers, known for their courtroom intensity and high-profile defenses, are expected to make a strong push to keep Mosiria out of jail as they question the interpretation of the orders and the process that led to his conviction.

The case stems from a petition filed by Parklands Residents Association through Kamal Kumar Sanghani, Jags Kaur, and Teddy Obiero, who accused the county of ignoring environmental laws and court directives to halt illegal excavation and tree felling on Jalaram Road.

Court insiders say tomorrow’s session will be closely watched as the defense team seeks to convince the court to either set aside the contempt ruling or issue a lenient sentence.

Court Helicopter News will stream the proceedings LIVE from the Milimani Law Courts as Mosiria faces the bench alongside his lawyers.
